Instructions for
Installing the TrueSpeech Player

 

Print these directions:

  1. On the menu bar at the top of your screen, look for and click on the "Print" button. Or, click on "File" on the menu bar, then click on "Print."
  2. Follow the preparation steps, then go to the TrueSpeech page and follow the rest of these directions to download and install the TrueSpeech Player.

 

Recommended Minimum System Requirements for Using TrueSpeech

 

Preparation Steps:

  1. Create a directory or file folder on your hard disk drive. Name it "TSPLY" (without the quotes).
  2. Find out where your browser program is located. Use File Manager in Windows 3.x or Win95's Explorer.

 

Download the TrueSpeech Player file:

  1. Click on the link to the TrueSpeech page at the top of this page.
  2. On the TrueSpeech page, click on the button to download the appropriate file for your computer (Windows 3.x, Win95, Mac, etc.)
  3. This will take you to the License and User Agreement. Read it.
  4. Then fill in the form with your name, e-mail address, etc.
  5. At the bottom of the form, click on the button that says "Download Software"
  6. When asked where you want to save the file, type in the directory or file folder you created above (i.e. C:\TSPLY)

 

Install the TrueSpeech Player:

Windows
  1. Use File Manager or Win95's Explorer to open the TSPLY directory or folder.
  2. Double click on the downloaded file (*.exe). This will self-extract all the necessary files required for installation.
  3. From the File Manager or Win95's Explorer, double click the SETUP.EXE file in the TSPLY folder. This will install the TrueSpeech files.
  4. Follow the instructions on the screen as the files install. You will be given the option to accept the default locations or to select your own:
  5. Once TrueSpeech Player is installed, the TSPLY directory is no longer needed and can be deleted along with contents.
  6. The first time you click on a TrueSpeech file in Netscape, you will be asked what to do with it. Choose "Pick App..."
  7. Type in the location of the TrueSpeech program from step 4.
  8. From now on, Netscape will know to use the TrueSpeech player for TrueSpeech files.

For Mac or PowerMac:

  1. Download the TrueSpeech Player Installer (a .hqx file) from the TrueSpeech site.
  2. Expand installer file using a program such as Stuffit Expander.(On many systems, Netscape if set up to automatically expand .hqx files.)
  3. Run TrueSpeech Installer
  4. Once TrueSpeech Player is installed, you may delete the Installer file as it is no longer needed.
  5. The first time you click on a TrueSpeech file in Netscape, you will be asked what to do with it. Choose "Pick App..."
  6. Find and select the TrueSpeech program you just installed.
  7. From now on, Netscape will know to use the TrueSpeech player for TrueSpeech files.
